How To Make Your iPhone Photos Look Professional

When it comes to taking photos with your phone, you have a lot of potential options. Some people prefer the quality of the camera on their phone and use that for all their photos; others like to mix things up by editing an image from their phone onto one taken with another device. No matter what your preference is, there are tons of apps out there to help you get the perfect photo every time!

Camera phones are one of the few handheld devices that have only gotten better with age. Ask anyone on Instagram and they’ll tell you about their desire for a great camera phone, but despite the constant improvements many of us still don’t know how to master the mobile camera.

Capture Multiple Shots

First off, it’s important to know that taking a single photo probably won’t work. You need to take multiple shots of the same subject from different angles and distances in order for your phone camera to capture all the information needed to make a good picture. If you don’t have time or opportunity then just focus on one thing – like lighting, composition or framing as best you can.

A little framing goes a long way

Taking good photos with your phone isn’t just about snapping a photo. It’s also framing the shot well so that you can see what you’re taking a picture of.

Take advantage of your camera when composing shots to frame things as tightly or simply as necessary.

Look for light before making your own

When you take pictures with a smartphone, the light comes from one source. This can make your picture look bad. When you use a camera, the light comes from more than one place and this will make your photo look better.

If you’re looking to take a better photo with your phone, the first trick is to find sources of light that will help illuminate your subject. If you’re really stuck for lighting, try turning on some lights or using an available flashlight mode.

Learn What Your Camera Can Do

Improve your photography skills by learning about the manual features on your phone. If it has them, long for a camera phone that can do these enhanced functions: shutter speed, white balance adjustment and focus-point placement.

Avoid Digital Zoom

Digital zoom is one of the worst features on a camera phone. This function will make your photo blurry because it just enlarges pixels and doesn’t add any more detail. If you’re using this feature, try to use it sparingly or not at all!

Experiment with exposure

The most powerful function of a camera phone is its ability to adjust exposure. Simply press and hold the shutter button while adjusting your light sensor (usually located at the top left-hand side) until it’s right!

Use Editing Tools

A phone’s built-in camera editor can be used to crop and touch up photos. It is also possible to edit with a more advanced app like Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop or another editing option available on your device.

Professional Photography iPhone Apps

There are a number of great photography apps that allow users to get a more professional photo than what can be taken with just the Camera app on your iPhone.

Camera + ($0.99): Personally, this is my favorite iPhone photography app — I always get questions on what I use to edit my photos. You can photograph without the app, then use Camera+ to edit with its features like photo filters to make any photo look professional. Just their Clarity filter will do wonders for your photos.

Instasize ($4.99 a month): Instasize is a standout app for resizing your photos. It features one-tap resize, so you can ensure the pictures are optimized across all of your social media channels. There’s also a library of professional filters and effects as well as tools for adjusting lighting, colors, and more on an individual basis.

Portrait Mode works when there’s light

Filters and other enhancements offered by smartphone camera apps do not yield the same depth of field as professional photography, but a good “portrait mode” or photo editing app can make it look that way.

Why do I look bad in pictures but good in real life?

We are accustomed to seeing reflections in mirrors, since we were young. You know this reflection fairly well- it may seem strange to see an actual photo of you. This phenomenon is called the mere exposure effect.
